Clinic for Chest Surgery

Chest or thoracic surgery includes surgical treatment of lung and pleura diseases, large airways, diaphragm, mediastinum, as well as chest wall, upper thoracic perforation and chest and thoracoabdominal injuries. Clinic’s dominant pathology is lung carcinoma.
The other conditions surgically treated at the Clinic are benign lung, chest wall and airway tumors and metastases, echinococcus, fungal diseases and pulmonary tuberculosis, as well congenital anomalies of the lungs (sequestar, AV fistulas and lung cysts) and chest wall (choanoid and chicken breast, Poland syndrome, chest bone perforation), infections of pleura (empyema) and mediastinum (mediastinit). It also carries out treatment of recidivous pheumothorax, chest wall and large airway tumors along with the other medical conditions.
A new video-assisted thoracoscopic surgical technique (VATS) has been introduced into its clinical practice since 2007, allowing the performance of various diagnostic procedures. In the early phases, the aforementioned method helped resolving problems as lung biopsies, empyema, tumors and enlarged mediastinum lymph nodes. Therapeutic VATS interventions include anatomic and atypical lung resections, sympatectomy in hyperhidrosis and operative procedure of spontaneous pneumothorax.
In the last three years, the indicated open and VATS surgery practically became equal then performing the mediastinum tumor and thymectomy surgeries, oncology operations of lung carcinoma, beside atypical lung resections, sympathectomy in hyperhidrosis and operative procedure of spontaneous pneumothorax, applied from the very beginning.
